[Thirteenth, actually. She's just on the edge of that line where she's going to have an ice cream hangover all night long, but that's fine. It's been a great day! She's unsquidded, found her family, and found some good friends too, and those sorts of nice things tend to infect Mabel with a whole lot of manic energy. An ice cream hangover will be a great way to wind down before bed.

Ah, but here comes Dipper, crashing all about as always. Mabel watches him with zero concern whatsoever; he is trained to announce that he's fine explicitly so that everyone around him can go through life without having heart attacks about it. If Dipper ever falls flat on his face and stays quiet, then she'll worry.

As it is, she kicks her feet, idly.]

Hey, Dipper. What's up?

[Predictably, Dipper picks himself right back up, wobbling a little, and finishes his stride over to her. He slams his hands down on the nearest surface between them, eyes wide with that sort of manic energy that comes when Dipper is eager to test something.]

We need to try Twin ESP again! I think it might work this time!

-- really? Did something happen?

[Dipper was getting into weird stuff long before they ever went to Deerington. For all she knows he's already tripped over some eldritch tome that was sticking out of the sand somewhere and has begun learning the local witchcraft.]

[Would would definitely not be the weirdest thing he's tripped over.]

Yeah! So like, it was super weird--

[He's excited so he is starting to pace around a little, waving his arms.]

I found Oscar! He's here! And he's safe and about as intact as most of us are, thankfully. [He'll gloss over that quickly, since he did not exactly voice his concerns about that to many people, what with Oscar's decision for his eggs.]

There was a moment while we were talking where I heard him say something, but he didn't actually open his mouth, and then--

[Basically nobody's found all their lost marbles yet as far as Mabel can tell so "about as intact as most of us are" doesn't strike her as anything worrisome. She lights up with a gasp instead, cutting her brother off.]

You heard your boyfriend's brain?

Ahahaha! Oh man, if he can hear yours that's gonna be a lot.

[Mabel is Dipper's sister. She does not require Twin ESP to know what his brain is like.]

Mabel, please. This is serious.

[He’s notably not refuting anything she’s said.]

[YEAH, SEE. Mabel finishes her chortling and wipes a fake tear of mirth from her eye before she settles down.]

Okay, okay. What happened next?

[He almost doesn't want to say.]

[He sighs.]

He uh. He heard an entire paranoid ramble from inside my head.

[Just gonna brace himself for this one.]

Hahaha, called it.

[What was Dipper really expecting out of this conversation, though.]

[To not be put on blast by his twin sister, obviously. It is his own fault, really.]

Anyway, the point is, I definitely heard him first so it stands to reason that it might have been initiated from my end.

[And even if not, it's pretty weird that Oscar was able to talk back to him. Oscar has magic, but he's never said anything about telepathy that isn't between him and Ozpin. Anyway.]

I'm not sure what to make of it, exactly, but we also know that ...the thing I saw back at the house party-fire turned out to be the Pthumerian Ocean.

[Oh.

That does give Mabel pause and she frowns a little into her sundae.]

So, you really were getting psychic back then, after all? [That's...mostly reassuring, in that it affirms that they were always meant to come here after the dream and that's what Mabel wants, but. What if they hadn't wanted that? Hm. Also:] How come I haven't had anything weird happen?

[Being a squid is not weird, apparently, which should surprise no one who has known Mabel longer than thirty seconds.]

[He sees that frown but its met with one of his own as he runs a hand through his hair. While allure of Twin ESP was one they both kind of longed for for years it does bring up some things Dipper is having to think about now.]

[The idea of him having psychic powers feels like some kind of joke. He’s only ever been a pretty cut-and-dry normal human. Sure he could use some minor magic from home but that was all. What is he supposed to make of this notion of getting visions and stuff? It feels kind of …heavy to think about.]

I think so… at least. I’m not sure what else it could be.

[He looks up at her at her question.]

I don’t know, but that’s why I want to try it again. Maybe something needs to trigger it, or you haven’t found out how to do it yet. I think some weird stuff is happening to all of us.

[Mabel considers this, compares it to various media she enjoys, and decides it checks out.]

Right! Plenty of magical girls and superheroes have to have accidents or find magic cats first! I've still got plenty of time.

[She is still kind of burned by not getting her letter to magic school when she turned eleven if we are being honest but to be fair those powers would have come with grades, and Mabel is not sorry to be done with those forever. Probably missing magic school is for the best.]

Right.

[It made no sense to him that he would end up with weird powers and she wouldn’t anyway so obviously, they needed to just keep trying.]

Let’s try the way we did back at the party, and then if we can’t get it to work, we just have to make a list of ways super powers awaken and try them all!

[A pause, and then-]

And also we should look at your blood.

[Top of the list will be hunting down a magical cat, for obvious reaso -- wait.]

...wwwwwwwwwwhy?

For scientific reasons.

[Dipper sure does just say stuff since Grunkle Ford started normalizing his everything, huh.]

Hang on, I stepped on a crab earlier.

[She hikes a leg up so she can grab her foot. Is it time to play WHAT'S UNDER MABEL'S BANDAGE???]

Sweet!

[Pause.]

It wasn’t like, a murderous crab or anything right?

Huh? I don't think so. It was a real jerk, though, so I threw it in the ocean.

[It is entirely possible Mabel did in fact run into a murderous cave crab. We will never know, because she hallucinates on the regular as it is and something like that just doesn't cross her radar as anything worth making note of until it's accompanied by actively getting super sick, which did not happen here.

Also something that happens on the regular is Mabel's tendency for small bleeding injuries which she forgets about almost immediately. Our saving grace here is that Mabel has been very thoroughly trained to be afraid of things like tetanus, so given the location of this one she at least paused to get a bandage from a Waker before she went around getting sand and stuff all in the cut, even if having her leg get infected and fall off would just mean getting a cool prosthetic, preferably with a jet powered pogo stick in it. She unwraps the bandage now, and bothers to look at what's actually going on with her foot for the first time.]

-- woooooah! Look at that! It's green! Oh man, Dipper, do I have squid blood? Maybe I'm gonna have squid powers!

[No one wants Mabel to have whatever Mabel thinks squid powers are so fortunately she is wrong.]

[Dipper sputters brilliantly for a moment, because he had hoped that Mabel's blood was glowing and matching his own. He was not prepared for her to give him an answer that was completely different.]

Wait, wait, it's green!? Seriously!? Let me see!

[He gets up to totally get a closer look.]

If you get squid powers I'm moving into my own room.

[He wants no part of what Mabel might think Squid Powers are, 100%.]

Yeah, you should be afraid of my squid powers.

[Helpfully, she holds her foot up with both hands, so Dipper can better see her oozing wound. Her leg doesn't actually bend that way so she has to tilt over somewhat but they are both used to this kind of thing.]

See? It's totally green. Gross!

You poke me with weird stuff while I sleep enough as it is.

[He does not want to wake up to squid tentacles.]

[Anyway he's all but climbing onto the table to get a closer look at her food.]

Hold still, I'm going to take a sample.

[Which is a totally normal Dipper thing to be said. He riffles in his bag for ...huh. Looks like it might have been an empty salt shaker he stole off a table somewhere near the hotdog stands. Anyway he is going to collect some of that if she doesn't move first.]
