CHARACTER INFO
Name: Mason "Dipper" Pines
Canon: Gravity Falls
Canon Point: Post-canon | Deer Country CRAU just after his and Mabel's fifteenth birthday.
Age: 15
Species: Sleeper
History: Gravity Falls and Deer Country
And I'll quickly try to sum up his Deer history:
Dipper and his sister turned 13, Dipper wakes up in OG Deerington right at the end of his canon which is a nightmare horror game set in 1950's Maine with a lot of cosmic horror
The world basically ends in Deerington which leads to the game's chapter 2: Deer Country where people wake up in the Gothic Victorian horror city of Trench that is heavily based on Bloodborne lore.
Dipper lives there with his family in their quaint home that's packed to the brim with ghosts and bones, going about his business in Trench. Dipper's business includes ghost hunting, demon exorcising, biting off more than he can chew and turning into a hideous monster, and winning a baking competition!!
Personality:
✽ What is your character's main motivation? What drives them and keeps them going?
Dipper's got two very important drives. The first one is that he is an insatiable desire to seek the truth. What truth? All truth. If there is a mystery, he will fucking solve it. It makes him both an enormous busybody and someone with way too much personal responsibility heaped onto his shoulders. Secondly, and more importantly, Dipper is driven by his love of his family. He would do anything for them, and god help anyone who threatens them. Dipper is a morally good person most of the time but a lot of that gets tossed out the window when his family is on the line.
✽ What is their biggest regret? Why?
Dipper's biggest regret currently is the fight he got into with Stan right before Stan returned to the ocean (aka Stan was dropped). They both said a lot of things to each other in a frustrated, heated argument and while they made up, Dipper can't help but think that maybe it was his fault the ocean called him back. It's something that's going to haunt him for a while.
The second, and notably canon regret, will always be the fight he had with Mabel at the end of the summer. He agreed to an apprenticeship under Ford, thus separating the twins and Mabel took it really hard. The resulting fight lead to her running off and being tricked into basically starting the apocalypse. Imagine how much grief everyone could have been spared if he hadn't done all that!! Imagine!!! it's something else that will always haunt him.
✽ What is their worst fear? Their greatest comfort?
Losing his family, definitely. If it isn't clear by now family means a lot to him!! Very little would rattle him more than something happening to his twin sister or his uncles. And likewise, they are his greatest comfort, because generally no matter what dumb shit he gets up to, they will always be there at his back.
Unless of course, he wakes up alone in some weird world without them.
✽ Top three strengths?
- Dipper has an incredibly strong will. Once he has set his mind to something, he is difficult to stop. Once he is committed to seeing something through, he will do it. Additionally, and it's of note, Dipper is just not easily affected by things like illusion based brainwashing or magic like "charm person". Bill Cipher himself once commented that someone will a will of solid titanium would be needed to see through the prison he'd locked Mabel in, and surprise, when everyone around him fell prey to the brainwashing paradise of Mabeland, it was Dipper that could see it for the nightmare it was.
- Dipper is ride or die for the people he cares about. If he considers you close friends or family, this little lunatic will tear the world inside out for your sake. Dipper has fist-fought a giant robot with his bare hands once for his sister, he has stared down an alien death machine, trained to detect fear, and told it to fuck off so hard it exploded in order to keep it from vaporizing his uncle. Do not hurt his people, or you will live to regret it.
-While Dipper is often touted as The Smart One of his friends and family, Dipper is far more than just a human calculator. Dipper is someone who can solve dire, life threatening situations under heavy stress. He is resourceful and cunning on top of being swiftly intelligent, and his quick thinking has kept him alive through three dimensions and two apocalypses*
✽ Top three weaknesses?
- Dipper is an overthinker and gets wrapped up in his own head super easily. His sister will fondly dub this "Getting in his own way". This over thinking has lead him to stir thoughts of self doubt and hesitation that will often spell trouble for him if he doesn't get shaken out of it. He will also catastrophisize situations and be prone to paranoia and mistrust.
- He is ...so stubborn. He's so stubborn and sometimes he really doesn't know when he should back down. This stubbornness often makes him butt heads with one of his uncles, and it has gotten him into plenty of trouble when someone couldn't reign him in.
- Dipper is deeply petty and has a vengeful streak a mild wide, especially if it comes to defending his family. He has no problems with being underhanded or resorting to cheating, if it means fueling said petty vengeance. He really is a menace if you manage to get on his bad side.
✽ What was their last lie?
"I'm fine."
Inventory: His journal, the Azure Pine (a spear than can turn into a sawed off shotgun. It was built by Ruby Rose.), his lucky pen (gifted by his sister), some tools for blood magic (a knife, runes, some small handheld tools.) and a pendent with a strange green liquid that he wears around his neck. (It's filled with his sisters blood, it's a natural stabilizer for his blood and powers. Yes, I'm serious.) Dipper also has a small, shadow-like creature named Alcaid that lives in his soul. They're like a daemon that he can summon. Alcaid looks like a tiny little ball of feathers and teeth with glowing red eyes. Like Mothman but very compact and round.
Abilities: cracks knuckles.
Dipper is someone with Paleblood. What this means is he has a powerset unique to his bloodtype. Paleblood is described as having a strong affinity under the moonlight. It grants abilities that include: Empathy, Telepathy, Precognition, Dreamwalking, and illusions/hallucinations. It's largely left up to players to interpret how these traits manifest in characters specifically so I will give you the rundown on how Dipper's Paleblood abilities manifest:
Dreamwalking: Dipper can dreamwalk both willingly and unwillingly. It's extremely easy for him with people he knows well, or people who have a similar type of sensitivity to dreams, but it can also happen on accident. Dipper can also use this ability to create "dream bubbles" which are basically little pockets of space he can carve out for people to exist in when dreaming. Lastly, Dipper can forcibly induce a dream state to the people around him if he is under duress. This tends to manifest in the world around them greying out and reality getting fucking weird.
Telepathy: Dipper is not very good at this! He can only read some vague surface thoughts at most, but it works best if he has a strong bond with the person. This has the potential of being honed better the more he practices it.
Empathy: Dipper suffers from emotional disregulation frequently from his abilities and will suck up the emotion and energy from the places around him. For example: If a room had a bunch bad things happen in it, then the lingering negativity would be something he could soak up. He wears that pendent to help smooth that out, but if its bad enough (or he loses the pendant) then a surge of grudge-like energy could send him straight into deep corruption or beasthood.
Precognition: Dipper can receive visions! They manifest in him going in a trance and putting together an insane looking corkboard leaving him to decipher it when he snaps out of it. He can also briefly touch an item and view a little bit of it's past with a very specific form of tactile clairvoyance.
Hallucinations/Illusions: Palebloods have the ability to induce hallucinations in others, Dipper does not have full control over this ability and has only been able to use it in moments of extreme duress or as a Beast. He could learn to better control it over the course of the game, but for now that's all he can do.
Powers aside, Dipper is an incredibly intelligent, deeply cunning and resourceful kid. He's a problem solver, a tinkerer, and has a strong affinity for the occult. He possesses a strong will and an unyielding stubborn streak that keeps his wits about him in dangerous situations.

Just a write up of some of the themes and ideas I used while making this plot as well as explanations for some of the clues and scenarios I used! This is mostly for me to keep track of things but also hey, maybe someone will find this interesting.
Shadow Dipper - The weird shadowy Dipper that appeared in the Dipper!Clues and also at the very end of the plot, was an entity named Alcaid. Alcaid is an Omen, which is essentially a daemon-like creature that lives in Dipper's soul. It's a manifestation of his own self, with a sentient and distinct personality. They are companions, pets, and protectors, and so Alcaid was working very hard to try and wake Dipper back up in a way that did not resort to death or beasthood ahaha they are very tired. Alcaid's true form, when in the waking word, looks like this aka a little round fat ball of feathers and teeth with unblinking red eyes. Alcaid can speak, but usually only Dipper can understand their weird noises that just sound like the screams of the damned. It's fine, they're very friendly, especially if you feed them Doritos.
Alcaid has been here all along, but I never had an opportunity to bring them out, so leaving them as a mysterious aspect of this plot was really opportune! Alcaid will probably be around a lot more now. Give them pets.
The Three Clues
Clue One: The Descent - Deerington's notorious month of October was the first month Dipper spent in the game. One of Dipper's fatal flaws is the heaps of personal-responsibility that he puts on himself and the way he just takes it upon himself to do things when he thinks no one else will do it is what lead to him running around the streets of a blood apocalypse unsupervised. While this was not the incident that leads up to the loss of his eye, it is what contributes to it.
The wounds that Mizuki treated in this memory are the start of the "Descent" prompt. After being unable to sleep for days on end, Dipper started losing his grip on reality and began hallucinating that Bill was still possessing him, leaving him bruises from purposefully slamming his limbs into doors and cabinets, and stab wounds from silverware. The final signs of a Bill possession culminates in bleeding in the right eye. Dipper woke from his hallucination to find out he had been the one hurting himself all along in his insanity, with the finale having been the large shard of glass he found himself holding while pain exploded from the right side of his face. Probably things would have gone better for him if he hadn't been trying to do everything himself from the start.
Alcaid warmed up to Mizuki quickly when they saw him hone in on Dipper's injuries before anything else, leading to them trusting him with a feather.
Clue Two: The Sacrifice of Cynthia Sodder - Towards the end of Deerington, the game was presented with a set of visions and a set of choices to make. Each vision brought characters to some test involving each of the major NPCs. Usually a choice would have to be made, and an implied right or wrong answer, depending. These visions were meant to be clues to the final decision regarding the end of the game and it directly affected what kind of ending these NPCs got.
Cynthia was the mother of Julia Sodder, the eldritch girl who's nightmare was the town of Deerington. Cynthia had been chained to the nightmare as a bridge between life and death, keeping everyone "alive" in some way or another while forcing her to listen to the cries and screams of the people suffering in the Nightmare. In her vision, she begs for release, a mercy kill, that eventually gives her the opportunity to be reborn into Moon Presence. She then becomes a guardian entity over Trench/Deer Country.
Dipper made the decision to go through with the mercy kill. He and Mabel ultimately had to come to grips with the harsh reality that sometimes something good can come from something awful. Dipper has no regrets over this act, but the act itself has stuck with him all this time. He was, after all, way too young to have to make a choice like that. As a result, Dipper does regard Cynthia/Moon Presence fondly and sometimes takes his powers as a boon from her. This is why she manifests as a guardian in his consciousness.
Mamika insisting that they can wake up and save Julia Sodder was what won Alcaid over in this particular memory. The really upsetting thing about Julia Sodder was that despite the entire game's best efforts to try and save her, they all made the wrong call about her in particular, and instead accidentally killed her outright. Julia did not get her happy ending, and having that decision be put in their hands is something Dipper has never had the chance to process or grieve.
Clue Three: The Mad Blood Minister - Dipper's first freelance work as an exorcist and ghostbuster, was to thwart the nasty spirit in the basement of an old graveyard house inhabited by a bunch of Fantasy Victorian lunatics. The ghost itself was a nasty piece of work, who did lots of unethical and cruel experiments on people, contributing to most of the ghost population in the rest of the house. While ultimately Dipper succeeds in this job, and is able to get that monster out of their house, it's not before Dipper gets possessed and nearly goes into corruption overdrive as a result. It was one of the first brushes he has with his powers going out of control as a result of his emotional disregulation going haywire in places of deeply unpleasant lingering emotions and feelings. This one is a straight forward hint to how the entire dreamscape incident was instigated.
Depending on how the memory ends up going more might be revealed by the end.
Moon Presence: The Guardian
Due to the decisions made by the end of Deerington, Cynthia at least, gets her happy ending, becomes Moon Presence, and looks after Trench. Because of Dipper's specific contribution to this, he regards her as a guardian, and that is the reason why she appears in his consciousness, protecting him from outside threats. Of course it's just a defense mechanism Dipper triggered in the wake of being overwhelmed by the Fallen Sun temple to keep him from immediately going into Beasthood, which is why it's attacking aggressively on principle.
Alcaid hands out three feathers to help get people to the center of the dream to wake him up. This is a less gross reference to the three umbilical cords needed to confront moon presence in bloodborne.
The setting for the final confrontation is a representation of Dipper's personal mindscape and depicts a number of significant items and events. The scorch marks in the ground reference the site of the Exorcism incident which was probably one of the most catastrophic fuck ups Dipper has ever made. Dipper tried to exorcise a demon out of a friend, but due to poor planning, ignoring his own signs of corruption, refusing to tell anyone what he was doing, the exorcism went very poorly. The demon sends Dipper straight into beasthood, but not before nearly burning him alive due to his proximity to Falco as he shifted into his Titan form. He ends up being put down by Ruby Rose before he nearly kills both his sister and his boyfriend. The trunk is a reference to a conversation he had with Oscar in regards to a bad memory he tried to lock away.
More will be added here probably as everything else wraps up!
